Coeur d’Alene Police detectives and the multi-agency SWAT team have called off a search for fugitive Douglas J. Standish on Tubbs Hill near downtown.

Police learned that the 49-year-old kidnapping suspect may be hiding out on the hill.

“That information is not definitive but we are checking the area for public safety reasons,” police spokeswoman Sgt. Christie Wood said this afternoon.

Police detectives may continue the search during daylight hours tomorrow, according to a news release.

Standish is suspected of kidnapping a Dalton Gardens woman at gunpoint Monday.

The woman reported the kidnapping at about 3:30 p.m. Monday after she was released in Coeur d’Alene. She said she was taken from her home about 10:30 a.m. and identified Standish as the suspect.

A warrant for his arrest sets bail at $100,000 on a first-degree kidnapping charge.

Standish is 5-foot-10 and 225 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen driving a blue Chrysler Town and Country van with a possible license plate of K303434.

Anyone with information about Standish’s location is asked to call police at 208-769-2320 or online at policetips@cdaid.org.
