In brief: Chiefs take to ice for skating event

 

NORTHEAST – Come out and skate with the Spokane Chiefs at Eagles Ice-A-Rena, 6321 N. Addison St., from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Skaters and nonskaters can mingle with Chiefs players and get autographs.

Admission is $5 and includes skates. Part of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

Refugee’s project distributes food

EAST CENTRAL – The Refugees’ Harvest Project distributed 9,000 pounds of fresh produce this season, exceeding its goal by 3,000 pounds.

More than 60 immigrants and refugees from countries including Bhutan, Burundi and Sierra Leone harvested and distributed the donated fruits and vegetables.

The program is celebrating a successful season with a harvest event on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Community Building, 35 W. Main Ave.

Valley Christian will honor veterans

EAST CENTRAL – Valley Christian School will present its 25th Anniversary Veterans Day program Friday at 1 p.m. at the Union Gospel Mission, 1224 E. Trent Ave.

The theme, “Always True to the Red, White & Blue,” will include a special lunch to honor veterans before the program.

West Valley plans child screening

SPOKANE VALLEY – West Valley School District is sponsoring free child developmental screenings for 3- and 4-year-olds who live in the district.

Screening will provide information to parents regarding their child’s speech and language development, motor skills development and concept development.

Appointments are available Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be held at the Millwood Early Childhood Education Center, 8818 E. Grace Ave.
