Mt. Spokane girls soccer qualifies for State 3A

Maddy Boyd scored twice and Shannon McReynolds recorded her third consecutive shutout Thursday as Mt. Spokane qualified for the State 3A girls soccer tournament with a 2-0 win over Southridge at Spokane Falls Community College.

Boyd outran two defenders at the 13-minute mark after McReynolds punted the ball over the defense. The Wildcats (12-4), on a seven-game winning streak, will play Kamiakin (16-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick for the top two seeds to state. Southridge (10-6-1) will meet University (11-5) on Saturday for the third berth to state.

• Ellie Heiden scored at 8 minutes and during a 7-6 shootout to help Kamiakin to a 2-1 win over U-Hi at Lampson. Kelsey Walker scored at 26 minutes and during the shootout for U-Hi.

District 7 2A: Abby Swanson scored during regulation and the 3-1 shootout, and Halie Gronenthal scored the winner in the shootout as host West Valley (16-2) notched its seventh consecutive win, 2-1 over Clarkston in the title match. The Eagles will open State 2A play Tuesday at home against Ellensburg (12-6-1) or Ephrata (13-4-1). Clarkston (13-5) opens state Tuesday at West Valley (18-0) of Yakima.

Volleyball

Wilbur-Creston (16-6) and Odessa-Harrington (17-7-1) won twice apiece at the District 7 1B tournament to qualify for state. They’ll meet at 3 p.m. at Northwest Christian for the title and top two seeds to state.

Chelsea Fisher had 16 kills in the O-H Titans’ 3-0 sweep at Curlew. Kaelee Reed had nine kills and three blocks as W-C qualified for its fourth consecutive state trip with a 3-0 sweep over Almira/Coulee-Hartline at Wilbur.

Saturday’s loser-out games will be Curlew vs. Cusick at 11 a.m. and ACH vs. Valley Christian at 1 p.m. The winners will meet at 5 for the third state berth.

W-C opened the day with a 3-0 win over Selkirk (4-11) as Reed had 10 kills and seven blocks. … ACH started with a 3-1 win over Cusick as Berlyn Hunt had 12 kills. … Fisher had 13 kills and four aces as O-H began with a 3-0 sweep of Republic. … Curlew edged Valley Christian 3-2 in its opener, sparked by Olivia Volluz’s 24 kills. … Caytlin Nenema had nine kills as Cusick eliminated Selkirk 3-1. … VC eliminated Republic 3-1 behind Bradi Harding’s 11 blocks.

Football

Colton, Touchet and Liberty Christian tied for the Southeast 1B title after posting wins in regular-season finales. For postseason purposes, the preseason tiebreaker draw was: 1, Colton; 2, Touchet; 3, LC.

Jake Straughan rushed for 151 yards and threw for 160 as Colton (8-2, 6-1) held on for a 58-40 win at Pomeroy (3-7, 2-5). … Colter McKeown scored TDs on a 43-yard run and 26-yard interception return as Touchet (9-1, 6-1) rolled to a 56-8 win over visiting Sunnyside Christian (5-5, 3-4). … John Lesser ran for 206 yards and four TDs as LC (8-1, 6-1) cruised to a 60-22 win over St. John-Endicott (3-7, 1-6) at Richland. … Garfield-Palouse (4-5, 4-3) earned the No. 4 playoff berth with a 44-8 win over LaCrosse-Washtucna (0-9, 0-7) at Washtucna.
