Age 93

JACK, Randall A.

(Age 93) A life-long area resident, went home to be with his Lord and Savior and to meet the dad he never knew on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Avalon Care Center in Pullman.

He was 93.

Randall was born to Ina Wilson Jack and the late Arthur Jack on December 22, 1919 at Moscow.

He grew up and attended school in Moscow.

He and Eugenia Coatney were married at Moscow on July 12, 1938.

They shared 53 years together until her death in 1992.

Later he married Jean Newman Askins in Pullman and they shared 21 years together at their home in Pullman.

Randall loved farming, raising flowers and most of all horses.

He started a boarding stable that could handle over 100 horses.

He became well known for his work training horses and had trained 529 of them, his big love was the Tennessee Walkers.

Randall enjoyed showing horses at various shows around the Northwest and was awarded many ribbons and trophies.

He served as the Northwest representative for the Tennessee Walking Horse Association.

Old timers can remember Randall and his favorite horse, “Big Boy” in the Johnson parade.

He loved children and with his wife Eugenia, provided foster care for 17 youngsters over the years.

Randall made sure his foster children attended Sunday school and church with his family at the Moscow Church of the Nazarene.

Randall was a faithful follower of God, teaching Sunday school for the sixth grade boys for many years, serving on the Church Board for several and was head usher for over 37 years, training scores of men the proper way to do the job.

Later in life he enjoyed greeting worshipers at the door, always with a ready smile and hardy handshake.

A man of many talents, he sang bass in a men’s quartet for services and weddings.

He was also a member of Gideon’s International, Palouse Camp.

Randall is survived by his wife, Jean, at their Pullman home, his daughters Kathy (Richard) Potts of Moscow and Arlene (Tom) Brooks of Ritzville, WA; his son Leonard (Tommie) Jack of Orofino and grandchildren, Fred Potts, Crystal Brooks, Eugene Jack, Mindy Jack, Shelby Jack and two great granddaughters.

His stepsons, Tracy (Susie) Askins, Bob (Debbie) Askins and Don (Monica) Askins as well as five step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as sister, brother and a son, LeRoy.

The funeral service will be held Monday, November 11, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Moscow Church of the Nazarene.

Burial will follow at the Moscow Cemetery.

A time of fellowship and a covered dish potluck dinner will be at the church fellowship hall afterward.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice, Nazarene Child Sponsorship or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
