Obituary: Schutz, Lucile

Age 89

SCHUTZ, Lucile (Age 89) Lucile Emily Schutz went home to be with the Lord on November 6, 2013.

She was born September 14, 1924 in Old Town, Idaho, and at the age of two moved with her parents to Spokane, WA where she graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

As a young girl, she was deeply interested in playing the piano and went on to receive a piano scholarship to Eastern Washington State College.

Upon receiving her degree, she taught primary grades in Colville, WA for two years, then headed out with a friend for a new adventure.

They traveled to Rochester, New York to attend the Eastman School of Music where she earned her masters degree in music education.

After leaving New York, she taught at the Whitman College Conservatory for three years in Walla Walla, WA.

Here Lucile met Gordon Schutz, who became her husband on March 27, 1949.

The young couple moved to Spokane in 1950 where she began to give private piano lessons in her home while raising her two daughters.

Lucile continued to teach until 1996, having enriched the lives of countless young musicians.

For many years she was involved with the Spokane Music Teacher’s Association and the music ministries at Messiah Lutheran Church and Ascension Lutheran Church.

In 1996, Lucile moved to Coeur d’Alene, ID to be closer to her daughter and family.

Lucile became involved in Bible Study Fellowship and the Women’s Association at First Presbyterian Church, but her special joy was her time spent with her two daughters and sons-in-law, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, of 44 years.

Lucile is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn (Ron) Keefer of Coeur d’Alene, ID and Diane (Chester) Schmitz of Murfreesboro, TN; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Lucile’s family, as well as her many faithful friends, give thanks to God for her life well lived in grace and faith.

She will be missed deeply and forever in our hearts, and we look forward to the day when we celebrate with her in Heaven.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Lakeside Ave. in Coeur d’Alene with Yates Funeral Home in care of the arrangements.

A private family burial will precede the service at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane.

The family prefers memorials to the Women’s Association at First Presbyterian Church.
