Firefighters extinguish blaze in North Spokane; woman and five children displaced

Spokane Fire Department firefighters extinguish a house fire at 3104 E. Bridgeport Saturday morning Nov. 9, 2013. The house sustained extensive fire damage to the kitchen, living room and two sides of the exterior. The Red Cross was called to assist one adult female and five children with clothing and possible shelter requirements. Spokane firefighters responded to a house fire on Bridgeport Avenue and Market Street on Saturday that displaced a woman and five children. At 9:55 a.m., firefighters responded to a call regarding a single-story wood home. Firefighters were able to confine the blaze to the home, preventing it from spreading to surrounding buildings, a department news release said. No one was found inside, and no firefighters were hurt. There was extensive fire damage to the kitchen and living room and smoke damage throughout the rest of the home, according to the release. The cause of the fire is unknown. The Red Cross was called to help the woman and her children with clothing and shelter.
