Obituary: Morrow, Cecil W.

Age 94

MORROW, Cecil W. June 13, 1919 - November 5, 2013 Cecil W. Morrow, 94, passed away peacefully Tues., Nov. 5, 2013.

His home was Nine Mile Falls, WA (Suncrest).

He was born June 13, 1919 on a farm south of Endicott, WA to Hugh I. Morrow and Anna E. Warner Morrow.

Most of Cecil’s youth was spent in the Cheney, WA area, graduating from Cheney High School in 1938.

In the early 1940’s his family bought farm land on Dover Rd., across the highway from Fairchild Air Force Base.

Cecil and his father farmed this for nearly 40 years.

On Feb. 1, 1972 he married Ruth C. Jackman Erickson, and in 1981, after they had sold the ranch, they moved to Suncrest.

Ruth passed away Jan. 11, 2004 after nearly 32 years of marriage.

Her ashes will be buried with Cecil.

During his lifetime he enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing hydroplanes, snowmobiling, traveling with Ruth throughout the United States in their camper and telling stories of ‘the good old days’.

He and Ruth volunteered with the American Red Cross, Stevens County Citizens Action Team/COP Shop, Lakeridge Park Association and Lakeside Community Library.

They enjoyed weekly potluck lunches with friends of the Tum Tum Seniors.

Cecil was a Life Member of the Washington State Grange (Espanola Grange #698), a volunteer with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Dept.

and the Spokane County Soil Conservation District.

Cecil is survived by two nephews, Edward (Hallette) Hanson of Tualatin, OR, William Sheets, Jr. of Mukilteo, WA, and great niece, Amy Hanson of Portland, OR.

He is also survived by a stepson, Gary (Dorothy) Erickson of Hillsboro, OR, stepdaughter, Phyllis (Chuck) Schaffer of Nine Mile Falls, WA, five step grandchildren (Karina, Karl, Keith, Rebecca and Sarah), five step great grandchildren (Amber, Jason, Kambria, Alexis and Alyssa), extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers-in-laws Ruby (Ole) Hanson and Arda (Bill) Sheets, and wife Ruth.

Over the years Cecil made many friends through his various activities.

A time of visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 from 10 am to 5 pm.

Services will be held at 11 am Saturday, November 9th, at Heritage Funeral Home, N. 508 Government Way, Spokane, WA, with private burial to follow in the family plot at a later date.

Cecil and Ruth attended Lake Spokane Community Church but kept ties with their West Plains roots at Hayford Community Church.
