Spurs crush Knicks, win fourth straight
NBA: Danny Green had 24 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, and the visiting San Antonio Spurs pounded the New York Knicks 120-89 on Sunday for their fourth straight victory.
Kawhi Leonard scored 18 points and Tony Parker had 17 in a game that was close for about 3 minutes. San Antonio scored the first 10 points, led by as many as 37, and was in complete control in between.
Carmelo Anthony and Andrea Bargnani both scored 16 for the Knicks.
• Thunder edge Wizards in OT: Kevin Durant scored 33 points, including a tying 3 late in regulation and the go-ahead foul shots in overtime that sent the Oklahoma City Thunder past the visiting Washington Wizards 106-105.
John Wall missed a driving layup attempt at the buzzer for Washington, which was seeking its third straight win. Bradley Beal scored a career-high 34 points for the Wizards.
• T-wolves get rare win over Lakers: Kevin Martin scored 27 points, Kevin Love had 18 of his 25 points during Minnesota’s 47-point first quarter, and the Timberwolves snapped a 22-game losing streak against the Lakers with a 113-90 victory in Los Angeles.
The Timberwolves hadn’t beaten the Lakers since March 6, 2007, and hadn’t beaten the Lakers in Los Angeles since Dec. 2, 2005.
Steve Blake scored 19 points for the Lakers, who have lost five of seven.
• Bobcats’ Clifford back tonight: The Charlotte Bobcats said head coach Steve Clifford will coach tonight against the Atlanta Hawks after having two stents placed in his heart Friday.
Kentucky routs Northern Kentucky
College men: Freshman forward Julius Randle had 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead No. 1 Kentucky to a 93-63 blowout of Northern Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
Needing a good tuneup with Tuesday’s showdown looming against No. 2 Michigan State in Chicago, the Wildcats (2-0) responded by dominating every area. Kentucky shot 30 of 55 from the field (54.5 percent), outrebounded NKU 51-23 and scored 36 points in the paint.
Daniel Camp’s 13 points led Northern Kentucky (0-2) in the first meeting between the schools located 83 miles apart.
• Fighting Irish tip Stetson: Jerian Grant and Garrick Sherman scored 15 points each for No. 21 Notre Dame in an 80-49 victory over Stetson in South Bend, Ind.
Reserve Brian Pegg led the Hatters (0-2) with 13 points.
The Irish (2-0) improved to 48-0 at home in November under coach Mike Brey.
No. 2 Duke rolls past No. 9 Cal in opener
College women: Two-time All-America guard Chelsea Gray showed no ill effects from last season’s knee injury, scoring 22 points in No. 2 Duke’s 70-58 victory over No. 9 California in Berkeley, Calif.
Tricia Liston and Richa Jackson each added 13 points for the Blue Devils, who opened the season against a ranked opponent for the first time in school history.
Afure Jemerigbe scored 16 points to lead the Golden Bears (1-1), who had a 15-game regular-season winning streak snapped.
Ducks beat Canucks, stay perfect at home
NHL: Rookie goalie Frederik Andersen won for the sixth time in as many NHL games, making 35 saves in place of ailing Jonas Hiller, and the league-leading Anaheim Ducks extended their winning streak to five with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Vancouver Canucks.
Corey Perry had a goal and an assist, helping Anaheim improve the NHL’s best record to 15-3-1 and the best home start in franchise history to 8-0.
• Ladd rallies Jets past Sharks: Andrew Ladd scored the tying goal with 1:43 remaining in regulation and then delivered the shootout winner to lift the Winnipeg Jets over the visiting San Jose Sharks 5-4.
Michael Frolik, Dustin Byfulgien and Grant Clitsome also scored for the Jets. Ladd had the lone goal in the tiebreaker.
Dan Boyle scored two power-play goals for San Jose, which lost in a shootout for the third time in their last four games.
Real Salt Lake trips Timbers in first leg
Soccer: Robbie Findley scored a go-ahead goal in the first half and had an assist in the second half, leading Real Salt Lake to a 4-2 victory over the Portland Timbers in Sandy, Utah, in the first leg of the Western Conference finals.
Chris Schuler, Devon Sandoval and Javier Morales also scored for Salt Lake, which will take a two-goal advantage into the second leg of the series on Nov. 24.
Will Johnson put the Timbers on the scoreboard in the 14th minute and Frederic Piquionne closed the scoring in the 90th.
Djokovic, Nadal advance to ATP final
Miscellany: Defending champion Novak Djokovic set up an enticing final against Rafael Nadal with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Stanislas Wawrinka at tennis’ ATP World Tour Finals in London.
Nadal ended Roger Federer’s hopes of finishing a disappointing season on a high note, defeating the six-time champion 7-5, 6-3 in the other semifinal.
Unbeaten in his round-robin matches this week, the second-seeded Djokovic extended his winning streak to 21 matches since losing in the U.S. Open final to Nadal. The two will play for the title today.
• Rookie Marquez wins MotoGP title: Marc Marquez became the first rookie in 35 years to win the MotoGP championship after protecting his points lead at the Valencia Grand Prix in Valencia, Spain.
Marquez, 20, finished third on his Honda behind race winner and defending champion Jorge Lorenzo, which was enough to clinch the championship. The last rookie to win the title was American Kenny Roberts in 1978.
• Fredricks captures 500: American Tucker Fredricks won the men’s 500 meters in a World Cup speedskating event at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, Alberta. American Heather Richardson took the women’s 1,000 in 1:13.23.
The Netherlands’ Sven Kramer won the 5,000 in 6:04.46. The Netherlands also won the women’s team pursuit.
• Shared Belief runs away with Prevue: Shared Belief romped to a record 73/4-length victory in the $100,000 Hollywood Prevue Stakes for 2-year-olds at Betfair Hollywood Park in Inglewood, Calif. Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Shared Belief ran 7 furlongs on Cushion Track in 1:22.17. The old record for winning margin was 6 lengths by Lion Heart in 2003.
