Boyd passes Rivers in Clemson victory

College football: Tajh Boyd passed for 340 yards and four touchdowns to break Philip Rivers’ Atlantic Coast Conference career record and the No. 8 Clemson Tigers (9-1, 7-1 ACC) earned a 55-31 victory over Georgia Tech (6-4, 5-3) in Clemson, S.C.

Boyd has 97 TD passes, two more than Rivers – now with the San Diego Chargers – had at North Carolina State from 2000-03. Boyd left the game and headed to the locker room in the third quarter after hurting his collarbone. Boyd returned to the sidelines a few minutes later.

Georgia Tech came in with an ACC-best 311 rushing yards a game, yet was held to 72 yards in the opening half and 248 for the game.

Golden State slips past Oklahoma City

NBA: Andre Iguodala made a baseline jumper as time expired to lift the Golden State Warriors to a 116-115 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Oakland, Calif.

Russell Westbrook’s 3-pointer with 2.3 seconds remaining had put the Thunder ahead after they trailed by 14 points early in the fourth quarter but Iguodala answered right back.

• Harden, Houston hold off Knicks: James Harden scored 36 points in his return to the lineup, and the visiting Houston Rockets withstood Carmelo Anthony’s 45 points to beat the New York Knicks 109-106, giving Jeremy Lin a win in his return to Madison Square Garden.

Chicago tops Phoenix 5-4 in shootout

NHL: Jonathan Toews and rookie Brandon Pirri scored in a four-round shootout, and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Phoenix Coyotes 5-4 in Chicago.

Radim Vrbata had the lone shootout goal for Phoenix.

Pirri tied the score 4-all just 3 minutes into the third period, and 4 seconds after a Chicago power play had elapsed. He connected on a midair deflection of Brent Seabrook’s drive from the top of the circle.

• Kings top Islanders with late rally: Tyler Toffoli deflected in the winning goal with 1:27 left for the Los Angeles Kings, who scored three times in the third period to stun the New York Islanders 3-2 in Uniondale, N.Y.

Tanner Pearson had tied it 2-2 with 7:45 left with a power-play goal in his first regular-season game. Slava Voynov started the rally for the Kings at 5:34 of the third.

• Boston edges Columbus in overtime: Milan Lucic scored on a breakaway with 49 seconds left in overtime to lift the Bruins to a 3-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets in Boston.

Bruins goalie Chad Johnson stopped 32 shots playing for just the third time this season.

• Toronto’s Kadri suspended: Toronto Maple Leafs center Nazem Kadri was suspended for three games without pay by for a hit to Minnesota goalie Niklas Backstrom’s head Wednesday.

Johnson helps No. 6 Wildcats over Aztecs

Men’s basketball: Nick Johnson scored 23 points and freshman Aaron Gordon added 16 points and eight rebounds to lead No. 6 Arizona to a 69-60 victory over San Diego State in San Diego.

The Wildcats (3-0) had a 14-point lead midway through the second half, but the Aztecs (1-1) rallied, closing within four points on Xavier Thames’ layup with less than 2 minutes left.

• UConn routs Detroit at 2K Sports Classic: Omar Calhoun had 17 points to lead six Huskies players in double figures as 19th-ranked Connecticut (3-0) earned a 101-55 rout over Detroit (1-2) in the opening round of the 2K Sports Classic in Storrs, Conn.

Louisville tops LSU at preseason WNIT

Women’s basketball: Asia Taylor scored 23 points and No. 5 Louisville held No. 14 LSU scoreless for 5:35 during a 21-0 second-half run en route to an 88-67 victory in the semifinal of the preseason WNIT in Louisville, Ky.

Louisville (3-0) shot 61 percent in the second half while holding LSU (2-1) to just 10 of 32 in the final 20 minutes and 25 of 67 (37 percent) overall.

Stenson closing in on European money title

Golf: Henrik Stenson strengthened his chances of winning the European money title, shooting a 4-under 68 that left the Swede two shots behind leader Alejandro Canizares of Spain after first round of the season-ending World Tour Championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Having already won the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup, Stenson also leads the Race to Dubai standings and was two shots ahead of nearest rival and playing partner Justin Rose.

The points champion will receive $1 million from a $3.75 million bonus pool that counts on the final money list.

Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Australia’s Marcus Fraser were tied for second at 67.

• Stuard tops OHL Classic leaderboard: Brian Stuard topped the OHL Classic leaderboard at 5 under with three holes left when first-round play was suspended for the day because of rain and wet conditions in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Spokane native Alex Prugh was at 3-over through 11 holes.

• Cullen leads Australian Masters: Adam Scott shot a 4-under 67 in the first round of his Australian Masters title defense, leaving him two strokes behind Nick Cullen.

• Phatlum leads Lorena Ochoa Invitational: Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum took the first-round lead in the LPGA’s Lorena Ochoa Invitational, birdieing seven of the first 13 holes for a 6-under 66 at Guadalajara Country Club.
