Milford, Texas – A drilling crew punctured a gas pipeline in North Texas on Thursday and triggered an explosion that led emergency personnel to evacuate a nearby town, according to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said the explosion occurred about 9:30 a.m. at a rig near Milford, about 40 miles south of Dallas. Milford, which has about 700 residents, was evacuated after Chevron requested a 1 1/2-mile evacuation zone.

Chevron has indicated it could take until today for the flare to burn itself out and allow the repairs to the rupture, according to authorities.

Zimmerman won’t be charged in domestic case

Orlando, Fla. – Police in Lake Mary, Fla., announced Thursday that they could not salvage video from an iPad George Zimmerman tore up during a dispute with his estranged wife and thus he will face no domestic violence charges.

Zimmerman, 30, is the former Neighborhood Watch volunteer acquitted in July of murdering Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old, whom he shot in Sanford last year.

Zimmerman, his estranged wife, Shellie, and her father, David Dean, got into an altercation Sept. 9, at the home the couple formerly shared in Lake Mary.

Shellie Zimmerman called 911, reporting that her estranged husband had threatened them with a gun. There was a scuffle in the garage, and Dean wound up with a punch to the nose.

Police found no gun on George Zimmerman, and the former Neighborhood Watch volunteer accused his estranged wife of hitting him with her iPad.
