Freshman leads Bucs to win over Pioneers

Freshman Ian Kolste passed for 314 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Whitworth Pirates (4-6, 2-4) to a 61-28 victory over the Lewis & Clark Pioneers (1-8, 1-5) in Northwest Conference play on Saturday in Portland, Ore.

The win was the 100th for head coach John Tully in his 19th season at Whitworth.

Kolste completed 22 of 27 passes for the Pirates, who ripped off 51 unanswered points after trailing 14-10 early in the second quarter.

The Pirates also rushed for 212 yards and five TDs, led by the 48 yards and three scores on 14 carries by Griffen Hare.

Willamette 62, Puget Sound 20: Taylor Wyman rushed for 140 yards and four TDs to power the Bearcats (7-2, 4-2) to a lopsided win over the Loggers (1-8, 0-6) in Northwest Conference play in Tacoma.

Carroll 48, Dickinson State 3: Dustin Rinker carried 26 times for 130 yards and a TD to guide the Saints (10-1, 9-1) over the Blue Hawks (1-10, 0-9) in Frontier Conference action in Dickinson, N.D.

Central Washington 44, Dixie State 0: Jordan Todd rushed for 238 yards and a TD to guide the Wildcats (7-4, 7-3) to an easy win over the Red Storm (4-7, 4-6) in GNAC play in St. George, Utah.
