Lake City Playhouse staging ‘Santaland’; summer theater to bring ‘Lady,’ more

Lake City Playhouse in Coeur d’Alene is changing up its holiday plans.

Instead of “Christmas Belles,” the playhouse will stage “The Santaland Diaries,” based on David Sedaris’ classic story of a misanthropic slacker who goes to work as an elf at Macy’s in New York City. It will star Doug Dawson and will be directed by Heather Bingman.

Dates and times will be the same, and tickets purchased for “Christmas Belles” have been transferred. For questions or ticket information, call Hannah Paton at the box office, (208) 667-1323. The Box office is open noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, and two hours before performances.

Speaking of Coeur d’Alene, the revived Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre has announced its slimmed-down 2014 season. The company will present fully staged productions of “My Fair Lady” (July 10-27) and “The Addams Family” (Aug. 7-24) as well as staged readings of “Around the World in 80 Days” (July 16) and “The Odd Couple” (Aug. 13).

The company is relocating from the 1,100-seat Schuler Performing Arts Center at North Idaho College to the 400-seat theater at the Coeur d’Alene Kroc Center. Theater officials urge fans to purchase tickets promptly.
