Obituary: Foss, John Henry

Age 79

FOSS, John Henry (Age 79) A much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

John Foss, 79, passed away at his home fighting a lung disease, November 5, 2013.

Born June 28, 1934, in Wallace, ID, residing the last 36 years in Vancouver, WA.

He moved his family from Spokane to work for Indian Health Services, Portland, as a social worker.

John was a graduate of Eastern Washington College and received his masters from the University of Washington.

He was a roofer, worked for the railroad and DSHS.

After retiring he went to work for FEMA with hurricane Katrina as one of his assignments.

John loved woodworking and building furniture.

He was a member of the Elks Club of Spokane for 57 years.

John married Anne L. Janke, June 27, 1959 and was married 54 years.

He is survived by his wife Anne; their children: Debbie Akers, Chewelah, WA, Steffanie (Mark) Anderson, Spokane Valley, WA, Michael and Gregory Foss, Vancouver, WA; sisters: Mary Graham Coffey, Solvang, CA, Alice Wilson, Hood River, OR, and Genie Goodman, Great Falls, MT; grandchildren: Alissa (Mat) Helvik, Spokane, Kaylee Anderson, Spokane and Jerrid Anderson, Seattle; along with many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Loretta Foss; sister Joanne Janke; son-in-law Perry Akers; and nephew Peter Graham.

A Mass for John Foss will be held November 20, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Spokane, WA at 10 am.
