Obituary: Toole, Ainslie Palmer

Age 84

TOOLE, Ainslie Palmer (Age 84) Died Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Rockwood South in Spokane, WA.

Ainslie was born October 20, 1929, in Spokane, the second daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Donald Ainslie (Helen Andrine Onserud) Palmer.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and later her beloved Duke University in North Carolina.

She married Allan H. Toole on November 24, 1951, in Spokane, where they spent their lives and raised their two children, Bruce and Lorie.

Allan and Ainslie were vitally active in many Spokane civic organizations.

Ainslie served on the board of the Spokane Opera and was involved with Friday Musical, Inland Northwest Community Foundation, Junior League, Children’s Home Society, Spokane Food Bank and Spokane Salvation Army.

Ainslie studied and taught yoga at the Spokane Club and Gonzaga University.

Lake Coeur d’Alene was important in their family life; there they shared many happy hours with their children, grandchildren and friends.

They enjoyed a wide c ircle of friends and family who enjoyed Ainslie’s many talents, including her notable gift of conversation.

Ainslie is survived by her daughter, Loretta Ainslie (Lorie) Toole, Everett, WA.

; grandchildren, Jason Smith, Bruce Toole, Jr., Benjamin Thompson, and Wendi Merkle (Michael); great-grandchildren Maxwell Toole, Chazz Toole, Lilly Thompson, Adelyn Thompson and Dahlia Merkle; her sister, Elisabeth (Mimi) Palmer Thompson, Montgomery, AL; nieces and nephews, Dr. John Ainslie Thompson (Dianne), Seattle, WA; Helen Andrine Thompson Andersen (Arnold), Iowa City, Iowa; Donald Palmer Thompson, Montgomery, AL; Elisabeth (Beth) Thompson Trevor (]ohn), Montgomery, AL; cousins, Dr. Robert Howard Palmer (Jessie), New York, NY; Elisabeth (Betsy) Palmer Eldridge (Robert), Toronto, Ontario; Henry Ricketts Palmer (Margie), Chicago, IL.

Ainslie was predeceased by her husband, Allan Hardenbrook Toole, and her son, Bruce Allan Toole.

There will be a memorial service for Mrs. Toole on Saturday, November 23, at 11:00 am, at Rockwood South, 2903 East 25th Avenue, Spokane, WA 99223, with Rev.

Gail Duba officiating.

A reception will follow in the dining room.

Memorials may be given to the Spokane Salvation Army, one of the Spokane civic organizations or the charity of choice.

The family deeply appreciates the compassionate care given to Ainslie by the Rockwood staff and by Mr. Michael Foster.
