WSU upsets No. 4 USC in volleyball

The Washington State volleyball team rallied from two sets down to upset No. 4 Southern California 11-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 21-19 on Sunday in Pullman.

USC (22-5, 12-4 Pac-12) had a 14-9 lead in the fifth set before the Cougars rallied to tie it at 14. There were five more ties with the lead going back and forth with USC serving for the set three times. At 19-19 USC was called for a lift and made an attack error to give the Cougars (17-12, 4-12) the victory.

Three Cougars had double-doubles: Kyra Holt (13 kills, 19 digs), Jaicee Harris (11 kills, 28 digs) and Haley MacDonald (33 assists, 13 digs).

The last time WSU beat USC was in 2009.

Men’s soccer

Washington defeated Oregon State (7-9-2, 0-7-2 Pac-12) at Corvallis, Ore., to clinch the Huskies’ first conference title since 2000. Mason Robertson scored in the 57th minute, his third consecutive game-winning goal. Ryan Herman earned his seventh shutout.

The Huskies finish the regular season 14-1-4, 7-1-2 and earned an NCAA tournament bid.

• Gonzaga defeated Saint Mary’s 3-1 in Spokane to end the regular season with the Bulldogs waiting until today to find out if they get an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

Lars Ludwigs had a goal an assist and Clark Phillips two goals.

Though the Bulldogs (10-6-3, 5-4-3) finished third in the West Coast Conference, they have the highest RPI in the WCC.

The Gaels finished (7-9-4, 5-5-2) and out of the postseason.

Women’s basketball

Three Cougars scored in double figures as Washington State beat Mississippi 79-65 on the final day of the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu. Tia Presley scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Cougars (2-3). Lia Galdeira and Safe Romberg added 14 points each. Tia Faleru also scored 29 for the Rebels (1-3).

Hockey

Justin Bonanno put the Spokane Braves ahead with the game’s first goal but the Columbia Valley Rockets (8-11-3-2) rallied for a 4-2 KIJHL victory in Invermere, B.C.

Jonny Marzec also scored for the Braves (7-13-0-3).
