Obituary: Schmick, Joan L.

Age 77

SCHMICK, Joan L. (Age 77) Joan L. Schmick, 77, Endicott resident, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Sacred Heart in Spokane.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 21st at 1:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church with burial following in the Endicott Cemetery.

Viewing will be Wednesday from 9am to 4pm at Bruning Funeral Home and also for an hour prior to services in Endicott.

Joan was born June 16, 1936 at Endicott to Dave and Erma Bruce Lust.

She grew up on the family farm until moving to Dayton, Washington to her grandfather’s home following the death of her father when she was ten.

They moved back to Endicott where she graduated from high school in 1954.

She liked to sing in the school choir and was a wonderful piano player.

She attended Pacific Lutheran University for a year and Washington State for a year before starting work in Spokane.

She married B. Gerald Schmick in Endicott September 7, 1957.

They farmed near Endicott their entire lives.

Joan kept busy as a homemaker and mother.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, sang in the church choir and helped with vacation Bible school.

She loved to bake and was well known for her delicious cookies and pies.

She also liked to write poetry and read.

Many friends and family have received the gift of a lovely card or letter hand written by Joan.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her mother and a brother, Vernile.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years Jerry at their Colfax home; four children, Luann (Brett) Flanagan of Scottsdale, AZ, David (Jill) Schmick, Spokane, Jill (Daniel) Moore, LaCrosse, and Jeff (Karen) Schmick also of Spokane; six grandchildren, Matthew, Jared, Miranda, Jena, Noah and Drew; her great-granddaughter, Avery Ann, and by two brothers, Dennis Lust of Portland and Bob Lust of Sacramento, CA.

The family suggests memorial gifts be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Spokane.
