Obituary: Tibbits, Harwood Jesse Jr.
Age 77
Harwood was born to Jeannette and Harwood J. Tibbits Sr., January 11, 1936, in Tacoma WA.
As a child, his family relocated to Spokane, WA.
Harwood has four children, Peggy Gustafson (Don), Mike Tibbits (Toni), Scott Tibbits (Stephanie) and Clarke Tibbits (Heidi), as well as his beloved grandchildren, Riley, Madeleine and Sarah.
Harwood is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
Harwood graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and then the University of Washington.
While away at college, he met his wife, Donna, and they were married 48 years, September 7, 1957 to March 21, 2006 when Donna sadly passed away.
Harwood was very proud to have been a Veteran and served our country in the Air Force, at Randolf Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas from 1958 to 1962.
Then he continued serving until January 11, 1996, in the Air National Guard, Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, WA.
Harwood retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Harwood was a successful businessman in the Insurance Industry with his firm “H.J.
Tibbits and Associates” for 45 plus years.
Harwood donated many years and much time to “The Jaycee’s” helping people in need.
In his younger years he enjoyed bird hunting, fishing and attending sports games that his children played.
Camping and boating at neighborhood lakes, San Juan Islands and the Olympic Peninsula were some of his favorite activities and places to visit.
Harwood made Priest Lake and Lake Roosevelt as his summer places for many years.
Harwood had an avid love for the game of Bridge, Cards and all his Bridge buddies.
Harwood was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Donna.
We will miss Harwood’s many stories, as he was very well read.
A Mass of Christian burial to celebrate “Woody’s” life will be held at St. Mary’s, 304 South Adams Rd., Spokane Valley at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, November 23rd, with a reception and graveside service to follow.
