Smart scores 39 points as No. 7 Oklahoma St. belts No. 11 Memphis
College men: Marcus Smart scored a career-high 39 points and No. 7 Oklahoma State (4-0) raced past No. 11 Memphis (1-1) for a 101-80 win on Tuesday night in a one-sided matchup of top teams at Stillwater, Okla.
Smart, who bypassed the NBA draft after last season’s early exit from the NCAA tournament, had 26 points in the first half and finished with five 3-pointers.
• Kansas pulls away from Iona: Perry Ellis scored 21 points, freshman Joel Embiid had 16 points and 13 rebounds in a breakout performance, and No. 2 Kansas (3-0) used a big late run to bury Iona (1-2) 86-66 at Lawrence, Kan.
• Kentucky routs Texas-Arlington: James Young scored 26 points, Julius Randle had 22 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 4 Kentucky (4-1) cruised to a 105-76 victory over Texas-Arlington (2-3) at Lexington, Ky.
• Arizona pounds Rhode Island: Nick Johnson had 20 points, a career-high 10 rebounds and six assists to lead No. 5 Arizona (5-0) to an 87-59 rout of Rhode Island (3-2) at Tucson, Ariz., and a trip to New York City for the semifinals of the NIT Season Tip-off.
• Hood leads Duke: Rodney Hood scored a career-high 30 points to help sixth-ranked Duke (4-1) beat East Carolina (4-1) 83-74 in the NIT Season Tipoff at Durham, N.C.
• Kaminsky hits 43 for Badgers: Junior Frank Kaminsky scored a school-record 43 points, and No. 12 Wisconsin (4-0) shot a blistering 59 percent from the field to beat North Dakota 103-85 at Madison, Wis. Troy Huff had 37 for North Dakota (1-1).
• Ducks roll: Joseph Young scored 20 points and No. 17 Oregon (3-0) needed a strong second half to polish off Utah Valley (2-2), 69-54, at Eugene, Ore.
• Carson drops 40 for Sun Devils: Jahii Carson scored a career-high 40 points to lead visiting Arizona State (4-0) to an 86-80 win at UNLV (2-2).
Carson was 16 of 25 from the field.
Bosh powers Miami past Atlanta
NBA: Chris Bosh scored 19 points, Mario Chalmers went on a personal 9-0 run in a 39-second spurt of the pivotal third quarter, and the Miami Heat topped the visiting Atlanta Hawks 104-88 for their fourth straight victory.
• Stuckey helps Pistons beat Knicks: Rodney Stuckey scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half, and the Detroit Pistons beat the visiting New York Knicks for the first time in eight meetings, 92-86 on Tuesday night.
Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with 25 points.
• Kobe makes progress: Kobe Bryant has participated in another full practice with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bryant still isn’t sure when he’ll be back in uniform, but his second workout with his teammates left him optimistic about his return.
• Curry has concussion: Stephen Curry will not play for the Golden State Warriors against the Memphis Grizzlies tonight because of what the team is calling a “mild concussion.”
• Grizzlies guard suspended: The NBA has suspended Memphis Grizzlies guard Tony Allen one game without pay for kicking Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul in the face.
Selvig registers 800th career win
College women: Montana’s Robin Selvig became the eighth women’s basketball coach to reach 800 career victories with the Lady Griz’s 68-61 victory over visiting Portland on Monday,
Selvig has been at the school for 36 years and produced 33 winning seasons, including 20 trips to the NCAA tournament.
The 61-year-old coach joined Pat Summitt, Sylvia Hatchell, C. Vivian Stringer, Tara VanDerveer, Geno Auriemma, Jody Conradt and Andy Landers in the 800-victory club.
Montreal’s Pacioretty has hat trick
NHL: Max Pacioretty had a natural hat trick in the second period as Montreal cooled off visiting Minnesota 6-2.
• Nashville’s Mazanec earns shutout: Rookie goalie Marek Mazanec made 27 saves to earn his first shutout, and visiting Nashville extended Detroit’s losing streak to seven games with a 2-0 win.
