Warming shelters will open Wednesday night

Due to extreme cold, Spokane will activate its Homeless Warming Center program tonight.

The warming shelters will open at 8 p.m. Wednesday night and close at 7 a.m. Thursday. Warming centers are located at:

• The Salvation Army Community Center

221 Nora Ave.

Single adult men are welcome.

• The Salvation Army Family Resource Center

204 E. Indiana Ave.

Families with children and couples are welcome.

• Hope House

111 W. 3rd Ave.

Single adult women are welcome.

The warming centers, which are not set up for lodging, are activated only when the temperatures are forecasted to drop to 20 degrees or lower by the National Weather Service and homeless shelters were at capacity in the last 24 hours.
