In brief: Volunteers, sponsors needed for Salvation Army Clothe-a-Child

SPOKANE – The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers and sponsors for this year’s Clothe-A-Child program.

Children age 6 to 12 are nominated for the program by teachers and school counselors. Volunteers are needed to help the children shop from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Dec. 3 at the J.C. Penney at the Spokane Valley Mall; 2:30 to 5 p.m. Dec. 5 and Dec. 6 and 8:30 to 11 a.m. Dec. 7 at the NorthTown Mall J.C. Penney.

To sponsor one child is $100, but any amount is welcome.

Volunteers and sponsors must fill out a registration form, which can be requested by calling (509) 329-2721.

City taking High Drive comments

SOUTH SPOKANE – The city is accepting comments on the High Drive renovation project until Dec. 1.

Rights commission seeks nominations

SPOKANE – The Spokane Human Rights Commission is seeking nominations for the first Spokane Human Rights Award.

The commission is looking for one youth (younger than 21), one individual and one organization to be recognized for human rights efforts.

Children’s clothes, shoes needed

CHIEF GARRY PARK – Mission Community Outreach Center, 1906 E. Mission Ave., is soliciting donations for new children’s clothes such as jeans, underwear, hats, scarves and gloves in sizes from infant to 6 years.

The clothes will be donated to 1,000 children through the center’s Christmas program.

Cash donations are also welcome and will be spent on clothes.

Unwrapped new clothes may be dropped at the center before Dec. 6.

Halloween candy sent to military

LIBERTY LAKE – KiDDS Dental in Liberty Lake collected 990 pounds of candy after Halloween from local trick-or-treaters.

The candy will be sent to military members through Operation Gratitude. Along with the candy, the office sent 72 toothbrushes, 72 tubes of toothpaste, 72 packages of dental floss and hundreds of letters of appreciation.

Trick-or-treaters traded 1 pound of candy for $1, a dental goody bag and coupons from local businesses.

Affinity collecting food for food bank

Affinity Living Communities locations are collecting nonperishable food items for Second Harvest Food Bank.

Community members may drop off donations at the two Spokane Affinity locations through Monday. Affinity at South Hill is at 3304 E. 44th Ave.; Affinity at Mill Road is 12710 N. Mill Road, near Mead High School.

Today, both locations are hosting open houses 4 to 7 p.m. and will serve coffee, cocoa and cookies.

Also, the Mill Road location will bring a bus to Fred Meyer, 12120 N. Division St., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to receive donations. The South Hill location will bring a bus to Fred Meyer at 400 S. Thor St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.
