Eagles hot from floor in beating Terriers
IRVINE, Calif. – Drew Brandon scored 15 points, going 6 of 10 from the floor, and had 12 rebounds and seven assists to lead Eastern Washington to an 80-68 men’s basketball victory over Boston University on Friday night.
Tyler Harvey had a game-high 21 points, hitting five 3-pointers, and was 7 of 13 from the field. Venky Jois chipped in with 20 points, eight rebounds and three assists. The Eagles (3-1) shot 54 percent from the field.
Eastern Washington led by five at the break. A 13-4 run in the second half helped Eastern open its first double-digit lead of the game at 52-42 on a 3-pointer by Ognjen Miljkovic with 14:50 remaining. The closest the Terriers came the rest of the way was seven. The Eagles led by as many as 14 on five occasions.
Nathan Dieudonne led the Terriers (2-2) with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Maurice Watson Jr. had a team-high 18 points.
“I’m really proud of our players; we played a very complete game,” said Eastern coach Jim Hayford, whose team held the Terriers to 38 percent from the field. “We played defense the way we wanted to. That was a very experienced, efficient and well-coached team, and we held them to 38 percent.”
