Barr guides Vandals to victory

Idaho junior Stacey Barr scored 21 points and pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds as the Vandals edged UC Irvine 68-63 in their home opener Saturday in Moscow, Idaho.

Idaho (3-1) trailed the Anteaters (3-2) by a point at halftime, but surged in the second half.

Alyssa Charlston added 13 points and 10 rebounds and Christina Salvatore also reached double figures with 14 points for Idaho.

Whitworth 77, Redlands 61: Kayla Johnson made 11 of 19 shots and finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Pirates (3-1) topped the Bulldogs (2-2) at the Hampton Inn Classic in Santa Cruz, Calif.

K.C. McConnell added 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting for Whitworth, which built a 12-point halftime lead.

CC Spokane 73, Everett 56: Riley Holsinger had 20 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists to guide the Sasquatch (3-0) past the Trojans (0-3) in the semifinals of the Everett Classic in Everett, Wash.

CCS’s Morgan Freeman had 16 points and nine rebounds.

North Idaho 76, Sheridan 57: Kara Staggs led four players in double figures with 16 points and the Cardinals (6-1) pulled away in the second half and beat the visiting Generals (4-2) in a nonconference game.

NIC’s Panisessi Taimani added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Renae Mokrzycki chipped in 10 points and 14 boards.
