Freeman keeps rolling, tops Royal 33-14

Freeman’s Markus Goldbach did a little bit of everything Saturday to help the Scotties’ football team advance in the State 1A playoffs.

Goldbach scored on three long touchdowns and Freeman buckled down defensively in the second half to defeat Royal 33-14 in the quarterfinals at Lions Field in Moses Lake.

With the score tied at 7 late in the first quarter, Goldbach scored his first touchdown on a 98-yard kickoff return. The touchdown gave the Scotties’ a lead they wouldn’t surrender. He scored twice more in the second half.

With Freeman leading 21-14, Goldbach hauled in a 74-yard touchdown pass from Preston Hoppman to give Freeman a two-score lead.

Later in the quarter, Goldbach capped the scoring with a 98-yard run for a score.

Max Laib scored Freeman’s other two touchdowns.

He opened the scoring with a 7-yard run in the first quarter and hauled in a 49-yard pass from Hoppman in the second quarter to put the Scotties ahead 21-7 at the end of the first half.

Freeman (12-0) will take on Cashmere in the semifinals next weekend.

The Bulldogs advanced with a 36-14 win over Okanogan.

Adna 14, Reardan 7: The Pirates scored with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter and beat the Indians (8-3) in the quarterfinals of the State 2B playoffs in Centralia, Wash.

The loss ended Reardan’s season.

Adna will take on defending state-champion Lind-Ritzville/Sprague in the semifinals next weekend.
