Obituary: Riley, Maxine (Legrant)

RILEY, Maxine (LeGrant) (Allan, Pence) Maxine was born June 1, 1932 in Spokane, WA, and, with blue eyes still sparkling, passed away Nov. 21, 2013 in Liberty Lake, WA.

She left her mark on life with her boundless creativity-she was an exceptional painter of stills and landscapes, as well as an expert seamstress and photographer.

She was born to Evelyn M. LeGrant (Bullis) and Harrison O. LeGrant and lived for a time in Redding, CA, and Cusick, WA.

She married her first husband, Eugene (Gene) L. Allan, on May 2, 1949.

They resided in Pullman, WA, where they started to raise their two sons, James E. Allan and Jon L. Allan.

Maxine discovered a knack for handling money while working in the accounting department of the Compton Union Building at Washington State College (now WSU).

After her marriage to Gene ended, she married William (Bill) B. Pence on April 21, 1967 and spent the majority of her life married to and residing with him in Cheney, WA.

Bill preceded Maxine in death on August 10, 1993.

She married Roy E. Riley in August 2007.

She will be lovingly remembered as having the spirit of a true adventurer, traveling all over the world including Japan, Turkey, Australia, Europe and many other journeys.

Around town, she could often be seen zipping around (often over the speed limit) in her sporty red car.

She was an avid gardener and reader, as well as a tireless genealogist, tracing the family’s history back more than a dozen generations.

She spent time with the Eastern Washington Genealogical Society, and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Spokane Valley Baptist Church.

She is survived by sons James E. Allan and Jon L. (Rosalee) Allan, both of Spokane; stepsons Gary (Sue) Pence, of Choctaw, OK; Ronald (Marilynn) Pence of Cheney, and Roy E. (Nell) Riley, Jr., also of Spokane.

She took tremendous pride in her 10 grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, and Bill, she was preceded in death by her brother Harrison O. LeGrant, Jr. A service in her memory will be held at Cheney Funeral Chapel 1632 W. 1st St, on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.

Her interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Cheney.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Spokane, 121 S. Arthur, PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210.
