Spokane opens warming centers due to cold
Spokane activated its Homeless Warming Center program today due to cold weather.
Warming centers are for sheltering the homeless for brief intervals during extreme weather. These sites, which are not set up for lodging, are activated by the city when temperatures are forecasted to drop to 20 degrees or lower and homeless shelters were at capacity the previous 24 hours.
Tonight’s low in Spokane is forecasted to be 20 degrees.
The following warming centers will open at 8 p.m. today and remain open until 7 a.m. Monday.
Single adult men: The Salvation Army Community Center, 221 Nora Ave. (use Nora Avenue entrance).
Families with children and couples: The Salvation Army Family Resource Center, 204 E. Indiana Ave.
