TV Notes: Stars step up at ‘Dancing’ finale

Chuck Barney Mcclatchy-Tribune

Don’t miss

“DANCING WITH THE STARS” FINALE: We’ve had 17 seasons of this, so you know the drill: Two hours filled with contestants busting some final moves (no twerking, please), some recapping and lots of padding. Then they’ll name our winners, who have the privilege of lugging around one of the ugliest trophies known to mankind. Thank you. Come again. 9 p.m. Tuesday, ABC.

Other bets

SUNDAY: Here’s hoping that Miley Cyrus actually wears some clothes and ditches the foam finger for her performance at the “2013 American Music Awards.” The talent lineup also includes One Direction, Kesha, Florida Georgia Line, Justin Timberlake, Imagine Dragons and Kendrick Lamar. 8 p.m., ABC.

SUNDAY: On “The Mentalist, “ Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) finally comes face to face with serial killer Red John, to which we roll our eyes and say: It’s about time! 10 p.m., CBS.

SUNDAY: Nursing homes can be funny. Really. That’s what the promising new sitcom, “Getting On,” hopes to prove. Laurie Metcalfe stars as the supervisor of an extended-care facility where goofy stuff happens. 10 p.m., HBO.

MONDAY: And now for something different: “Generation Cryo.” It’s a reality series that explores the issues faced by kids coming of age who were conceived via anonymous sperm donors, most of whom probably want to stay anonymous. 10 p.m., MTV.

TUESDAY: Brace yourself for the deluge of weird holiday movies. Up tonight is “Christmas Bounty,” about a former bounty hunter (Francia Raisa) who returns home for Christmas and doesn’t exactly bring comfort and joy for an old enemy. 7 p.m., ABC Family.

WEDNESDAY: “Saturday Night Live Thanksgiving” is a collection of memorable bits tied to the holiday. Somewhere in there is a joke about how so many “SNL” sketches have, indeed, been turkeys. 9 p.m., NBC.

THURSDAY: Yes, something will be more bloated than our bellies today - the massive balloons in the “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.” They usually don’t cause acid reflux, though. 9 a.m., NBC.

THURSDAY: For some, “The National Dog Show” is as much of a Thanksgiving tradition as the parades and football. Just don’t tell that to cat lovers. Noon, NBC.

THURSDAY: “Sport in America: Our Defining Stories” is a compelling documentary that explores the cultural impact of landmark athletic events. Included: The 1972 Summer Olympics and the first post-Hurricane Katrina football game at the Superdome in New Orleans. 6 p.m., HBO.

FRIDAY: Hey, it’s Barbie from the block! “Barbra Streisand: Back to Brooklyn” captures the superstar singer’s first concert appearance in her native borough since her childhood. 8 p.m., KSPS.

SATURDAY: “Let It Snow” is another new holiday movie. This one is about a grinchy executive (Candace Cameron Bure) assigned to overhaul a beloved winter lodge. Our guess is that her heart will grow three sizes before this is over. 8 p.m., Hallmark Channel.
