BYU pulls away from WSU women in final minutes

Jennifer Hamson scored eight of her 20 points during the final 3 minutes, 40 seconds Tuesday night as host BYU broke from a 63-all tie to defeat Washington State 80-73 in nonconference play at Provo, Utah.

Lexi Eaton added 27 points and Kim Beeston 21 as BYU improved to 5-0.

Lia Galdeira’s jumper with 4:13 left allowed the Cougars (3-4) to tie the game at 63 after trailing by 11 points with 8:51 remaining.

WSU built a 24-18 lead with 6:47 left in the first half, but BYU responded with a 10-0 run highlighted by Eaton’s back-to-back 3-pointers.

Galdeira and Tia Presley scored 15 points apiece for the Cougars. Sage Romberg added 14 points and nine rebounds, and Shalie Dheensaw had 10 points and eight rebounds.

San Diego 74, Idaho 64: Katherine Hamilton came off the bench to score all five of her points during a 14-0 second-half run as the Toreros (5-0) rallied past the visiting Vandals (3-2) in nonconference play.

Idaho led 42-39 with 14:04 remaining after Maren Austgulen’s first 3-pointer of the season. Hamilton made a free throw and two layups as San Diego held the Vandals scoreless for nearly 4 minutes.

San Diego outscored Idaho 22-8 in the paint during the second half.

Stacey Barr led the Vandals with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Alyssa Charlston added 13 points.
