Chiefs Red matches hockey, wine

Hockey and red wine might make the perfect holiday pairing for fans of the Spokane Chiefs and Arbor Crest Wine Cellars.

Chiefs Red, a cabernet sauvignon, is a first-time collaboration of the Spokane winery and hockey team. A portion of the sales from each bottle goes to Chiefs Care, which funds continuing education for players as well as public appearances and the Chiefs’ charitable donations.

Fans can order Chiefs Red at the Chiefs’ office during regular business hours, at the Spokane Arena during games and www.spokanechiefs.com under the “news” tab, or by faxing or mailing in an order form. The fax number is (509) 328-7608. It sells for $20 a bottle, or $210 for a case.

The deadline to order is Dec. 5. Wine will be available for pick-up Dec. 11 at the Chiefs’ office, 700 W. Mallon Ave. For more information, call (509) 328-0450.

Cheerwine

Cheerwine is expanding to the Pacific Northwest.

The move is part of the company’s plan for the soft drink to be available in all 50 states by its 100th anniversary in 2017.

Billed as the “nectar from North Carolina,” Cheerwine began production in Olympia in mid-October. With the help of independent Pepsi bottlers and the Pepsi Beverages Co., the company expects its brand to be available throughout the region in early 2014.

Launched in 1917, Cheerwine, a mix of cherry and other flavors, is owned and distributed by the Carolina Beverage Corp. and Cheerwine Bottling Co. in Salisbury, N.C. It’s privately owned and managed by members of its founding family.
