Finalized The Minnesota Timberwolves have finalized the trade that sends Derrick Williams to Sacramento for Luc Mbah a Moute. Williams was the No. 2 overall NBA draft pick in 2011, but had played sparingly through the first 16 games this season.

Announced New England’s Jose Goncalves has been voted Major League Soccer’s Defender of the Year. The 28-year-old Portuguese central defender played every minute of the Revolution’s 34 league games and scored a pair of goals, both decisive.

• Washington forward Shawn Kemp Jr. has been diagnosed with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune condition affecting the thyroid, but he will continue playing for the Huskies. Graves’ disease results in the overproduction of thyroid hormones.

Fired Florida Atlantic has withdrawn Carl Pelini’s resignation as football coach, and has fired him instead. FAU interim president Dennis Crudele sent Pelini a letter, saying that the school is firing him because he “failed to timely report certain conduct” of a member of his staff.

Rejected A judge in Las Vegas has rejected O.J. Simpson’s bid for a new trial. The decision means the former football star must remain in a Nevada state prison where he is serving nine to 33 years for armed robbery and kidnapping in a bungled attempt to retrieve personal items from two sports memorabilia dealers in 2007. He’ll be 70 before he is eligible for parole.

Leaving Senior point guard Cody Doolin has left San Francisco’s basketball team for personal reasons. Doolin’s departure is a major blow for a Dons team that already had struggled to compete in the West Coast Conference. He averaged 13 points and seven assists in his first four games this season.

Removed A University of Missouri student fan group was kicked out of its second straight men’s basketball game over what school officials call a pattern of inappropriate chants. The Antlers were ejected from Mizzou Arena on Monday night early in the second half of Missouri’s 78-64 win over IUPUI. Athletic director Mike Alden told reporters later that the students violated the school’s “core values,” which include respect and responsibility.

Arrested Montana State University football player Jonathan Paul Ellis II was arrested and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct after a fight outside a bar in downtown Bozeman in which police say he punched a man who hit his girlfriend.
