Obituary: Henderson, Ruth L.

Age 106

HENDERSON, Ruth L. 1907 ~ 2013 (Age 106) Ruth Lillian Henderson, lifelong resident of Colfax, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the Whitman Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held next Wednesday, December 4th, at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church.

Graveside rites at the Colfax Cemetery will be held privately for the family.

Viewing will be Monday and Tuesday from 9 to 4 both days at Bruning Funeral Home.

Ruth was born March 23, 1907 on the family ranch near Colfax to Ashael P. and Myra (Cook) Baldwin.

She was the seventh of nine brothers and sisters.

She attended the Bethel country school and later graduated from Colfax High School.

Ruth married Roscoe Vernon Henderson in 1925 and they made their home on the North Flat of Colfax.

Ruth kept busy as a homemaker and mother to their four children.

She worked for many years as the manager of the Deysenroth Greenhouse in Colfax and later in their flower shop on Main Street.

She loved working in her yard and taking care of her flowers and garden.

She was also an avid quilter and had taught classes for several years through Spokane Community College.

Ruth was active in the United Brethren Church and had taught Sunday school there when it was located near her home on the North Flat and later became a charter member of Community Bible Church.

Ruth liked to crochet and made many, many raggedy Ann dolls for family and friends.

She liked to write and read poetry.

Ruth’s husband Roscoe died in 1970.

She is survived by sons Joe and Don and her daughter Patricia Bailey all of Colfax; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Mike in 2001 and by each of her siblings.

The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Whitman Hospital Auxiliary or to the Union Gospel Mission.
