Pend d’Oreille Winery wins big at wine festival

Pend d’Oreille Winery took home a gold, silver and bronze from the Tri-Cities Wine Festival.

The Sandpoint winery’s 2009 cabernet franc won gold as well as best in varietal. The grapes are sourced from the Willard Vineyard in the Yakima Valley and White Bluffs Vineyard in the Columbia Valley.

Silver went to its 2009 merlot, whose grapes are sourced from Coyote Canyon Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills and Wells Vineyard in the Columbia Valley.

And its 2011 chardonnay won bronze. Its grapes are sourced from the Vickers Vineyard in the Snake River American Viticultural Area.

Pend d’Oreille Winery wasn’t the only local winery to participate. Spokane’s Barrister Winery won silver for its 2010 cabernet sauvignon.

The 35th annual festival took place in the Tri-Cities earlier this month.
