In brief: SCOPE honors local volunteers

SPOKANE COUNTY – The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office recently honored local volunteers.

The 2013 Spokane County SCOPE Awards were given to the volunteer of the year at each SCOPE location in Spokane County.

The winners are: Lynda Fralich, Central Valley; Shirley Cornwell, Deer Park; Judy Rigby, East; Pam Cole, Edgecliff; Karen Erickson, Elk; Keith Harland, Espanola/Medical Lake; Brian Gemmell, EWU/Cheney; Staff Sgt. Denine Deal, Fairchild; Duane McInturf, Liberty Lake; Daralyn Dee Dension, Mounted Patrol; Greg Hock, North; Scott Christiansen, Southeast Spokane County; Christina Kirsten, Spring Hill; LeeAnn Hanke, Trentwood; Margaret Asbell, University; Rhonda “Ronnie” Gore, West Valley.

The Sheriff’s Office also named the winners of the 2013 SCOPE Lifetime Achievement Awards: Bill Bresko, Espanola/Medical Lake; Bill Hankel, EWU/Cheney; and Florence Weston, North.

John Baldwin of University was given the 2013 Spirit of SCOPE Award.

Blind Baseball hosting fundraiser

NORTH SPOKANE – Spokane Lion Pride Blind Baseball Team is hosting a fundraiser at Shakey’s Pizza Parlor, 9602 N. Newport Highway, on Dec. 4 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

During that time Shakey’s will donate 25 percent of the menu price to support Spokane Lion Pride.

COPS West holds raffle fundraiser

NORTHWEST SPOKANE – COPS West is putting on a holiday basket raffle as a fundraiser for the West Central COPS Shop.

Prizes include handmade quilts, hats and gloves as well as stuffed animals and other craft items. The drawing is on Dec. 23.

Tickets are $1 or six tickets for $5 and may be purchased at COPS West, 1901 W. Boone Ave.
