OT goal lifts WV to victory
Abby Swanson delivered an overtime goal to give West Valley a 1-0 win over visiting Pullman (5-3, 4-3) in a Great Northern League soccer match on Thursday.
After regular time ended with no score, Swanson headed in a cross from Caitlyn Hoffeld to extend the Eagles’ (9-1, 6-1) winning streak to six games.
Clarkston 1, East Valley 0: Leah Edens and Brooke Morrow combined to deliver a dramatic victory for the Bantams (6-3, 4-3) against the visiting Knights (5-3, 5-3).
In the final minute, Edens took the ball past a defender, dribbled to the end line and put in a low cross for Morrow to tap in from 6 yards out.
Cheney 10, Deer Park 1: The host Stags struck first, but the Blackhawks responded with 10 unanswered goals as Cheney defeated Deer Park (1-9, 0-7).
Amanda Denny and Kendyl Cone each had four goals and two assists in the win for Cheney (4-6, 3-4).
Lewiston 2, Post Falls 1: Zayne Cleveland scored on Madison Taylor’s pass at 63:00 to break the tie and earn a 2-1 win for Lewiston over visiting Post Falls.
The Trojans went up in the sixth minute on Erica Simpson’s goal and held the lead for 44 minutes.
JoLynn O’Kelley scored the equalizer at the 50-minute mark for the Bengals from Kristin Rietz’s assist.
Jordan Phelan had 24 kills and 16 digs, Emily Sior tallied match-highs in assists (43) and aces (4), and East Valley (4-2 Great Northern League) defeated visiting Clarkston 21-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-17, 15-7. Bantams Kimmy and Kasey Henriod each had 10 kills, while Kayla Snyder recorded 23 digs for Clarkston (2-4) in the loss.
Cheney 3, Deer Park 0: Ashley Seiler totaled 16 kills and 11 digs as the host Blackhawks cruised to a 25-23, 25-22, 25-15 victory over the Stags. Kinsey Pease had 30 assists and two aces for Cheney (5-1 GNL). Sierra English had ten kills, two aces, and eight digs for Deer Park (2-4).
Pullman 3, West Valley 0: Melissa Langer notched 12 kills and Jolene Herzog 14 assists as the visiting Greyhounds (4-2 GNL) swept the Eagles 25-12, 25-9, 25-14. Erin Higbie and Taija Williams each had five kills and a block for West Valley (0-6).
Lewiston 3, Lake City 0: Emilee Schlader recorded 14 kills, and Klaree Hobart tallied 19 digs as the Bengals (5-0) defeated the Timberwolves (2-2) 25-22, 25-9, 25-22.
Lewiston snuck by host Post Falls 2-1 behind two goals from Ben Cornell in an Inland Empire League 5A game. Cornell broke the deadlock in the 10th minute on an assist from Sam Funk. Cole Sullivan then tied the match at 1-1 in the 55th minute for the Trojans (2-2), but Cornell again put the Bengals (1-5) ahead just before the 60-minute mark.
Sandpoint 3, Lakeland 0: Amos Crossingham scored a goal in the first half and assisted a Nick Rappoport strike as the Bulldogs downed the visiting Hawks 3-0. The win clinched the top seed in the district playoffs for Sandpoint (3-0). Lakeland fell to 0-3 in league play.
