After averaging 56 points per contest through three games, No. 2 Linfield got defensive in its Northwest Conference opener against No. 11 Pacific Lutheran on Saturday in McMinnville, Ore.
The Wildcats intercepted four passes, eliminated the Lutes’ (3-1, 0-1) running game and scored 22 fourth-quarter points en route to a decisive 29-0 win.
Josh Hill got the Wildcats (4-0, 1-0) on the board in the first quarter with a 6-yard touchdown run. He also started the Wildcats’ fourth quarter onslaught with a 1-yard plunge. He scored his third touchdown with 10 minutes left to play that gave Linfield a 26-0 lead.
Linfield’s next game is Oct. 19 at Whitworth.
Lewis & Clark 60, Puget Sound 30: Keith Welch accounted for eight touchdowns in the Pioneers’ win over the Loggers (1-2, 0-1) in a Northwest Conference opener in Portland, Ore.
Welch threw for 412 yards and four scores and ran for 165 yards and four TDs to guide Lewis & Clark (1-3, 1-0).
Central Washington 21, Humboldt State 13: Jordan Todd ran for 127 yards and scored on a 40-yard run in the third quarter to give the Wildcats (3-2, 3-1) a win over the Jacks (0-5, 0-4) in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game in Arcata, Calif.
CWU hosts Dixie State next Saturday.
