Colleges: Stanford women win invitational in Sammamish

Stanford teammates Mariah Stackhouse and Mariko Tumangan finished 1-2 and the Cardinal women breezed to 27-stroke victory over the second-place Washington Huskies in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash., on Wednesday.

Stackhouse finished with a three-round total of 209, three strokes better than Tumangan.

Gonzaga finished eighth, 52 strokes off the pace. Ciera Min (223) tied for seventh to pace the Bulldogs. Washington State was last in the 15-team event. Kristin Rue (226) tied for 22nd to lead the Cougs.

Soccer

Tasha Luu and Rainey Pelzel scored second-half goals and the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (8-0-4, 6-0-3) delivered a 2-0 defeat to Walla Walla (11-1-1, 7-1-1) in an NWAACC women’s soccer match at SFCC.

Luu’s goal was unassisted in the 72nd minute. Pelzel’s netter came in the 89th minute with an assist from Laura Seymour.

• Mario Guizar scored in the 89th minute and Walla Walla (8-1-2, 6-0-2) earned a 1-0 win over CC Spokane (9-3-2, 4-2-1) in an NWAACC men’s soccer match at SFCC.

Volleyball

Nicole Leonard had 16 kills and 11 digs to spark the Whitworth Pirates (10-9, 4-3) to a 28-26, 25-23, 25-20 win over the visiting Whitman Missionaries (5-15, 3-4).

Jalana White had 12 kills for the Pirates.

• Dana Norris had 17 kills and Jacy Vining added nine digs and three aces as CC Spokane (20-9, 5-1) swept host Big Bend (8-14, 3-4) in NWAACC play at Moses Lake.
