In brief: Board, commission spots available

SPOKANE – The city has a long list of vacancies on its volunteer boards and commissions.

There are four vacancies on the Bicycle Advisory Board ( www.spokaneplanning.org/bab.html); four vacancies on the City/County Historic Landmarks Commission ( www.historicspokane.org/landmarks-commision); one vacancy on the Design Review Board ( www.spokaneplanning.org/designreview.html); one vacancy on the Northeast Public Development Board and five vacancies on the Plan Commission ( www.spokaneplanning.org/plan_commission.html).

Some vacancies have specific criteria such as an accounting or engineering background – requirements are available at the links above.

Applications must be submitted by Nov. 8 and are available at the Mayor’s Office or the City Council Office, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., on the seventh floor or at www.spokanecity.org/government/bcc/.

StageWest presents spooky play

CHENEY – The StageWest Community Theater presents “It Was a Dark and Stormy Night,” a play about Ye Olde Wayside Inn in Massachusetts, which is run by an eccentric family and haunted by the ghost of a soldier who deserted at Valley Forge.

When strangers seek shelter at the inn the killing times begin – who will survive the stormy night?

The show is presented on Friday and Saturday evenings, through Oct. 26 with curtain time at 7 p.m. The show on Oct. 26 begins with a New England-style dinner at 6 p.m. Sunday matinees are on Oct. 13 and Oct. 27 at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $12; $10 for seniors and students. Tickets for the dinner theater are $25, reservations are required.

Donations benefit Meals on Wheels

SPOKANE VALLEY – Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels will receive 12 cents for every pound of clothing donated to the Spokane Valley location of Value Village during the month of October.

There are two locations to drop off donations, the Meals on Wheels office, 12101 E. Sprague Ave., and Valley Value Village, 12205 E. Sprague Ave.
