Gonzaga Prep rolls by NC

Pups ride big first half to win

After surviving a mistake-filled game the week before, Gonzaga Prep came out firing, especially through the air, as the Bullpups overwhelmed the North Central Indians 49-14 in a Greater Spokane League game at Joe Albi Stadium on Thursday.

G-Prep (5-1) sandwiched two touchdowns to start the game around NC’s lone first-half TD and then finished out the first half with four more TDs in the second quarter.

Bullpups quarterback Kevin Thomas completed 4 of 5 passes in the first half, his final four attempts all for TDs. Three of those – for 7, 34 and 31 yards – went to wingback Nick Wood.

NC’s score was impressive. Quarterback Quinn Zerba hit receiver James Weigel, who darted past a defensive back and sprinted to the end zone 70 yards.

The Bullpups piled up 307 yards total offense in the first half with 217 coming on the ground via 37 attempts.

Thomas led the Bullpups rushers in the first half with 72 yards on 11 carries.

G-Prep scored on its opening possession of the third quarter to kick in the running-clock procedure for the rest of the game.

Bullpups running back Jack Bamis scored from 2 yards out to put the Bullpups ahead 49-14. He finished with 95 on 14 carries.

G-Prep substituted liberally the final two quarters.

Zerba led NC (1-5) 168 yards passing and 56 rushing. Weigel caught two TD passes.
