Wilhelm’s goal keeps Eagles atop GNL

Madison Wilhelm knocked in Halie Gronenthal’s corner kick in the 30th minute to help the host West Valley Eagles avenge an early season loss and stay on top of the Great Northern League with a 1-0 soccer win over the Clarkston Bantams (7-4, 5-4) Thursday.

WV keeper Rachel McGlothlen recorded her eighth shutout of the season. The Eagles (10-2, 7-2) have allowed only one goal in their last eight GNL matches.

East Valley 1, Pullman 0: Hannah Burland scored on a 23rd-minute corner kick as the Knights (7-3, 7-2 GNL) put away the host Greyhounds. Pullman keeper Becca Wickard kept the ’Hounds (5-5, 4-5) within one on a penalty-kick save in the 49th minute. Pullman outshot East Valley 10-7, but Kari Broemley was up to the task in goal for the Knights with eight saves.

Deer Park 4, Colville 3: Riley Martinson scored in the 15th minute and followed with another strike 3 minutes later to give the Stags an early 2-0 lead as DP (2-9, 1-7 GNL) held on to defeat the visiting Indians (4-7, 3-5).

IEL 4A

Moscow 1, Lakeland 1: After a scoreless first half, Ashley Endburg struck first for the Bears (1-1 IEL) with an unassisted goal in the 55th minute before the visiting Hawks (0-3) equalized 10 minutes later on a goal by Harley Hendry.

IEL 5A

Post Falls 2, Coeur d’Alene 1: Timmy Mueller tallied a pair of goals to guide the Trojans past the host Vikings. Mueller put PF (7-5-0, 3-3-0) up with an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute before the Vikings (7-2-1, 2-2-0) responded with a strike from Devin Kohles in the 31st minute. Mueller then took a control of a counter attack in the 44th minute to score his second unassisted goal from 16 yards out.

IEL 4A

Lakeland 2, Moscow 2: The visiting Hawks (2-10-1, 0-3-1) jumped out to a two-goal lead thanks to Austin Garitone assisting on Fernando Pimentel’s 15th-minute goal then scoring himself in the 45th. The Bears’ Tony Quesnell then connected from the penalty spot, and Joey Cook-Gallardo scored in the 79th minute to pull Moscow (4-6-1, 1-2-1) level and earn the point.

Volleyball

Clarkston 3, West Valley 1: Kimmy Henriod led the Bantams (4-4 Great Northern League) with 16 kills and three blocks in a 25-19, 25-27, 25-17, 25-11 win over the Eagles (0-8).

Colville 3, Deer Park 0: Aubrey Buckner had 16 kills, eight aces and 10 digs to lead the Indians (6-2) to a 25-20, 25-23, 25-18 victory over the host Stags. Sierra English tallied 19 kills and eight digs for DP (2-5).

Pullman 3, East Valley 0: Melissa Langerveld had 10 kills, Alex Shirey added 11 digs and three aces, and the Greyhounds (5-3) handled the visiting Knights (5-3) a 25-20, 25-17, 25-14 defeat.

IEL 5A

Lake City 3, Post Falls 1: Madi Farrell led the Timberwolves with 16 kills and four aces as LC won three straight after dropping the first game to beat the visiting Trojans 23-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-16. Haile Watson added 16 kills and seven blocks for the Timberwolves (3-2 IEL). Amanda Westlake led PF (0-5) with 10 kills, 16 digs, and three aces.

Intermountain league

Priest River 3, Bonners Ferry 1: The Spartans and Badgers split the first two games before PR pulled away for a 26-24, 25-27, 25-20, 25-11 win at Bonners Ferry (2-3 IML). The Spartans (3-1) received 17 assists from Karly Douglas, five kills from Jill Weimar, and eight blocks and three aces from Katlyn Summers.
