Shutdown over ACA is wrong

I heard Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodger’s Oct. 3 KPBX interview about the logjam that has backed up Washington, D.C. I don’t believe anything that she said in defense of the Republicans’ position because of the letter that she sent before the recess explaining how to shut down the Affordable Care Act, which was described as her priority.

She claimed in the interview that she is representing the majority of her constituents in opposing the ACA. I’m stating here that I am not one of those people, and there are a lot more besides me. As near as I can tell, her constituents are about evenly divided on this issue. Why can’t she debate the merits or deficiencies of the ACA on a point-by-point basis, instead of holding the government hostage over what are clearly ideological issues?

Please remember: the ACA was passed by both houses of Congress, signed by the president into law and judged constitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court. It is, in fact, a law, and if the GOP has problems with it, she should address her concerns with the individual points and stop trying to trample on process.
