Southwick leads Broncos’ win over USU

Joe Southwick passed for a career-high 335 yards and two touchdowns on 30-of-44 passing as Boise State defeated Utah State 34-23 Saturday night in Logan, Utah.

Shane Williams-Rhodes caught 13 of Southwick’s passes for 150 yards and a touchdown while running back Jay Ajayi added 109 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. The Broncos (4-2, 2-1 Mountain West) gained 26 first downs to USU’s 16 in the game and logged 447 yards of total offense.

Junior Craig Harrison made his first start at quarterback for Utah State (3-4, 2-1 Mountain West) after Chuckie Keeton, three-year starter for the Aggies, suffered a season-ending knee injury against BYU last week.

Harrison went 7 of 17 for 105 yards and rushed for 36 yards. Freshman Darell Garretson replaced Harrison with 9:23 to play in the third quarter and went 9 of 14 for 116 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Army 50, Eastern Michigan 25: Terry Baggett ran for four touchdowns, including a 96-yard score, and a school-record 304 yards – the highest mark in Division I this season – as the Black Knights (3-4) came back to beat the Eagles (1-5) at West Point, N.Y.

Baggett’s performance broke Michael Wallace’s mark of 269 yards set in 1999 and marked the first 300-yard rushing performance for Army, which debuted in 1890.

Duke 35, Navy 7: Anthony Boone threw three touchdown passes in his first game back from injury and the Blue Devils (4-2) beat the Midshipmen (3-2) at Durham, N.C.

Navy was denied its first 4-1 start since 2006 and hasn’t beaten the Blue Devils since 2007.

The Midshipmen were flagged five times, four in the first half, and had three turnovers, or, as many as they had in their first four games combined.

Michigan State 42, Indiana 28: Jeremy Langford scored four touchdowns and the Spartans (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten) beat the Hoosiers (3-1, 1-1) at East Lansing, Mich.

MSU prevailed in a matchup between their top-ranked defense and Indiana’s fast-paced offense.

Nebraska 44, Purdue 7: Ameer Abdullah ran for 126 yards and a touchdown to help the Cornhuskers (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten) defeat the Boilermakers (1-5, 0-2) at West Lafayette, Ind.

Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez sat out with a turf-toe injury. Tommy Armstrong Jr. started and completed just 6 of 18 passes for 43 yards with three interceptions. Ron Kellogg III stepped in and completed 10 of 13 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown.
