Sports goes uninterrupted

Because of the government shutdown, the Fairchild Air Force Base commissary is closed and Washington National Guard Units have cancelled their monthly training. If government has stopped, well, we must accept discontinued services.

But military academies, by special decision and permission of the Pentagon, played their football games last week. Apparently, the Pentagon is allowed to perpetrate the appearance of normalcy while actual military families or National Guard readiness, among much else, are neglected.

I feel like the unemployed of ancient Rome who were entertained by stadium spectacles while their country slowly crumbled into corruption and chaos.
