Suspects in club shooting plead not guilty

From staff reports
The two men police say were involved in the shooting death of another behind a Spokane music venue in September pleaded not guilty to murder charges Monday. Kalen Bedford, 23, and Carlos Fuentes, 25, have both been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Julian Morrison, 26, in what Spokane Police have called a gang-related incident. Morrison was found with multiple gunshot wounds, and a witness reported seeing Bedford shooting Morrison once, then continuing to fire after Morrison fell to the ground. Fuentes additionally faces multiple felony counts of drive-by shooting after witnesses reported seeing him fire from a vehicle as he, Bedford and others left the parking lot of The Hop! around midnight Sept. 8. A woman who identified herself to police as Fuentes’ girlfriend said someone else fired the shots in the parking lot, which was crowded with people after attendees were disappointed that a popular rap artist did not perform at the club.
