Obituary: Dougherty-Earll, Dianne

DOUGHERTY-EARLL, Dianne 9/16/1945 - 10/9/2013 Dianne Christine was born September 16, 1945 to Lt. Eugene (USMC) and Virginia Gleason in Great Falls, MT.

She was the granddaughter of Dr. Archie L. and Solveig Gleason and Andrew and Ethel Coward.

She did not meet her father until she was two, as he, along with the troops were occupying Japan.

As a career Marine family, moving was the order of the day, and along the way she was joined by three sisters; Nancy Jean (Andy) Armstrong and their children, James (Katie), Holly, Carolyn (Kevin )Schopp and David; Karen Ritchie (Larry) Ashim and their children, Becky and Debby (Matthew) Vandersande; Holly Leland (Gary) Swartz and their children Rachel and Matthew.

She was the proud mother of three children, Kathryn Evans, Elizabeth (Shawn) Priest and OSC Sean (USN) (Misty) Dougherty and the particularly proud Granny of Aaron and Olivia Evans, Mackenzie and Madison Priest and Curtis, Jason, Buckley and Zeke Roop.

Dianne also left behind her faithful furry companions, Copper and Buck.

She attended Montana State University where she was fortunate to be mentored by Dr. Michael Malone.

While attending college she volunteered at The Museum of the Rockies where her love of history blossomed.

After graduating with a BA in History from MSU, she graduated from Gonzaga Law School in 1985.

Her first position as an attorney was on staff at WSU, representing students.

Moving to the other side of the court room, she took a position as deputy prosecutor for Whitman County.

She spent the remainder of her career, over 20 years, as a deputy prosecutor for Spokane County and continued to lend her expertise to the office after retirement.

On November 7, 1992, Dianne married her loving husband John N. Earll, who has been extremely devoted to her and took exceptional care of her after her cancer diagnosis.

It was his gentle support that sustained her over the past four years.

She worshipped at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, where she served on the vestry, was a Senior Warden and Clerk, and volunteered on several parish committees.

Dianne was a voracious reader, especially anything historical.

She also enjoyed antiquing and gardening.

Loved and respected by her family, friends and colleagues, she will be missed enormously.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Cancer Care Northwest and the staff and volunteers at Hospice of Spokane for their compassionate care.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Endowment Fund or Montana State University for student scholarships.

Services will be held at St. Stephen’s Church at 5720 S. Perry on Thursday, October 17th at 4:00 pm with a reception following.
