Obituary: Lehr, Phyllis

LEHR, Phyllis (Age 91) Beloved mother and grandmother, Phyllis Lehr of Spokane Valley passed away at the age of 91 on October 9, 2013.

Phyllis was born Phyllis Ione Nunnemaker to parents Roy and Tessa Nunnemaker in Madison, South Dakota where she and her brother Bob spent their early childhood.

Phyllis attended Sioux Falls College but, as a result of the Great Depression, the family moved to western Washington.

There she met her future husband of more than fifty years, F.W.

“Bill” Lehr.

Bill worked in construction, so the new couple traveled to building sites from Great Falls, Montana to Pasco, Washington before finally settling in Spokane and later, Spokane Valley.

Phyllis balanced her part-time modeling career with raising three children, helping with the Ladies Auxiliary Club of Bill’s Union, and after the kids were raised, winning golfing trophies at Liberty Lake Golf Course tournaments.

Phyllis led an active retirement.

If she wasn’t traveling to Europe to explore her roots, Phyllis could be found participating in her community senior citizen clubs or sharing in memorable moments with her grandchildren, all of which illustrate her unwavering energetic, adventurous, and loving spirit.

Phyllis is survived by three sons and their spouses, Jim (Julie) of Spokane, WA; Ron (Dona) of Tigard, OR; and Bill (Frani) of Bothell, WA; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, Thursday, October 17, 2013.

Funeral services will be held in the Colonial Chapel at Hazen & Jaeger Valley at 11:00am on Friday, October 18, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Hospice House of Spokane.
