In brief: Central Valley government club presents ‘Rally in the Valley III’ debate

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Central Valley High School government club will present “Rally in the Valley III,” a candidate’s debate of races held in the Spokane Valley area.

Students Jacob Conant and Abby Stolp will moderate.

Scheduled to attend are Lori Olander, Hugh Severs and Mike Tedesco, running for City Council in Liberty Lake; Rod Higgins, Linda Thompson, Ed Pace, Gary Schimmels, Check Hafner, Don Morgan, Bill Bates and Fred Beaulac, running for City Council in Spokane Valley; and Mike DeVleming and Ron Schmidt, running for Spokane Valley Fire Commissioner.

There will also be student debates on the topics of “bawdy baristas,” genetically modified organisms (Initiative 522), gun background checks and coal trains.

The debate will be Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. in the theater of Central Valley High School, 821 S. Sullivan Road.

Commission meeting moved

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Spokane Valley Planning Commission meeting set for Thursday has been moved to 6 p.m. Oct. 30 at City Hall, 11707 E. Sprague Ave. The commission is expected to hold a study session on Shoreline Master Program regulations.

Grange hosts election forum

ROCKFORD – A candidate forum will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the McIntosh Grange, 319 S. First St.

The candidates for mayor, council, fire commissioner and Freeman School Board have been invited to attend.
