Lakeside wins a shootout

 Coleton Collins shined Friday night in Lakeside’s 56-47 shootout-style win over Newport in Northeast A League football action in Newport.

Collins caught a touchdown pass, rushed for a score and returned a fumble 34 yards for a score to lead the Eagles.

Lakeside led 35-21 at the half, but Newport rallied in the third and trailed by a point heading into the fourth.

The Grizzlies took a 47-42 lead early in the final quarter when Ryan Rapp threw a 21-yard TD pass to Jeron Konkright.

Lakeside responded as Nick Christianson scored on a 54-yard run and Collins caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from Cameron Gay.

Gay finished with 268 yards passing with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Christianson gained 155 yards on 15 carries and scored two second-half touchdowns for Lakeside (5-2, 4-1).

Rapp led Newport (3-4, 0-4) with 213 passing yards and four touchdowns. He also gained 184 yards on the ground and scored three times.

Medical Lake 24, Kettle Falls 15: Jackson Tappero scored two first-half touchdowns to lead the Cardinals (4-3, 3-2) past the visiting Bulldogs (1-6, 0-4). Tappero scored from 4 yards out in the first quarter and added a 5-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Tappero finished with 145 yards on 29 carries and Taylor Masteller recorded two catches for 44 yards and a score. Kettle Falls’ Conner McKern returned a blocked punt 42 yards for a touchdown.

Great Northern

Colville 27, Clarkston 7: The Indians (5-2, 2-1) piled up 314 rushing yards en route to a victory over the visiting Bantams (1-6, 0-4).

Colville’s running game was spurred by a three-pronged attack as Journey Young ran for 97 yards on 14 carries, Colton Vining ran for 113 yards and a touchdown, and Zach Showmaker gained 92 yards with a touchdown. Colville’s Young opened the scoring on a 44-yard touchdown catch from Ben Knight. Trevor Sperry led the Bantams with eight catches for 152 yards and a 65-yard touchdown.

Cheney 28, Deer Park 14: Andrew Graham passed for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Blackhawks (5-2, 1-2) beat the visiting Stags (1-6, 0-3). Nic Clough also had a pair of passing scores to keep the Stags in the game, but Cheney’s Austin Kline sealed the win with a 41-yard touchdown dash in the fourth quarter.

Northeast 2B

Colfax 47, Liberty 12: Mark Webber completed 17 of 22 passes for 184 yards and four touchdowns as the Bulldogs (4-2, 4-0) dumped the host Lancers (2-5, 2-3). Colfax’s Levi Hardy added 187 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Austin Getz added seven catches for 71 yards and two TDs for the Bulldogs. Match Burnham threw for 245 yards and a touchdown for Liberty.

Reardan 35, Springdale 14: Caleb Kopp ran for 153 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Indians (4-2, 3-1) past the host Chargers (0-6, 0-5). Clinton Jeney also scored twice on the ground for Reardan. For Springdale, Josh Anderson passed for 55 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 60 yards.

Northeast 1B North

Selkirk 46, Northport 12: Dominic Cain threw four of his five touchdown passes to Shawn Mailly as the Rangers (5-2, 3-2) defeated the host Mustangs (0-7, 0-5). All five of Cain’s touchdown passes came in the first half. The Mustangs’ Ben Short had 182 yards rushing and scored both Selkirk touchdowns. He also racked up 18 tackles.

Cusick 58, Inchelium-Columbia 20: Spencer Shanholtzer threw four touchdown passes and the Panthers defeated the Timberwolves in Inchelium. Noah Zehetmir ran 20 times for 162 yards and a rushing score for Inchelium-Columbia.

Curlew 63, Wellpinit 26: Gunner Brown ran for 261 yards and six TDs to lead the Cougars (2-5, 2-4) past the visiting Redskins (1-6, 1-4).

Northeast 1B South

Wilbur-Creston 54, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 14: Trystan Rosman completed 12 of 13 passes for 377 yards and six touchdowns to guide the Wildcats (6-1, 5-0) past the Warriors (2-5, 2-3) in Coulee City. Joey Rosman had three receptions for 117 yards and a pair of scores, and Colton Magers totaled three receptions for 127 yards and two scores. For the Warriors, Dallas Issak rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries.

Inland Empire 4A

Sandpoint 21, Moscow 14: Carson Paull scored from five yards out with less than two minutes remaining and the Bulldogs (3-4, 1-0) edged the host Bears (3-5, 0-1).

Sandpoint took the lead in the first quarter when Matthew Timothy rushed in from seven yards, but the Bears tied the game on a Sean Kiblen seven-yard run. Paull then scored his first touchdown, also from five yards, to give Sandpoint a 14-7 halftime lead. But with the game tied at 14 late in the game, the Bulldogs turned to Paull again, who delivered the winning score.

Nonleague

Riverside 42, Kellogg 14: Sam Zanoni threw for 261 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 115 yards and another score, as the Rams (5-2) beat the host Wildcats (1-6). Dallas Shuler caught three of the touchdown passes. Shuler finished with seven receptions for 172 yards, and also had two interceptions.

Riverside (Ore.) 34, Northwest Christian 33: Gregg Shimer scored from a yard out and ran in the two-point conversion to give Riverside a double-overtime win over the visiting Crusaders (0-5). Ethan Perriah scored three rushing touchdowns and David Olds threw for two scores for Northwest Christian.

Republic 66, Waterville 24: Alex Rivera ran for two scores and caught passes for two others to lead the Tigers (5-2) to a win at Waterville (0-7). Aaron Fritts added 214 rushing yards and two scores for Republic, which turned a close game into a rout with 28 unanswered points in the third quarter. Walker Baumbach led Republic with 18 tackles and two fumble recoveries.
