Eagles deserve more ink

On Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, three Washington state school teams (not two), the EWU Eagles, the WSU Cougars, and the UW Huskies, played their usual football games.

The WSU Cougars lost to Oregon State 52-24; this achievement won The Spokesman-Review recognition of a front-and-center story on page 1 of the Sports section, with two color photos.

The UW Huskies lost to Oregon 45-24.  Their performance garnered a story plus color photo above the fold, on page 1 as well.

The EWU Eagles’ decisive victory, 35-14, over the University of North Dakota was relegated to the right hand lower corner of page 1 below the fold without a photo.

The Eagles truly are our home team.  You have to travel to watch WSU or UW play at home.

Furthermore, EWU’s performance was hardly a fluke. If we look at the conference records of these three teams, only EWU is undefeated in its conference (2-0).

Come on, Spokesman-Review.  Give credit where credit is due and recognition when earned.

Next week, I expect to see an Eagles victory plastered front and center on page 1 of the Sports Section – above the fold.
