Grizzlies have to work OT to beat Mustangs

Jordan Johnson connected with Ellis Henderson on a 23-yard scoring pass in overtime and Brock Coyle followed with an interception to give Montana a 21-14 win over Cal Poly (3-4, 2-1 Big Sky) on Saturday in Missoula.

The Grizzlies (6-1, 3-1) marched 88 yards in 15 plays and tied the game on a 2-yard TD pass from Johnson to Clay Pierson with 12 seconds left.

Coyle sealed the victory for Montana with a leaping interception of a Dano Graves pass at the Grizzly goal line.

Montana’s last-gasp scoring drive was set up when Jordan Tripp blocked a 26-yard field goal attempt by Mustangs kicker Bobby Zalud with 2:17 left in the fourth quarter.

Akaninyene Umoh rushed for two first-half TDs to give Cal Poly (3-4, 2-1) a 14-7 lead.

Jordan Canada scored for Montana on a 5-yard run in the first quarter.

Montana State 34, Weber State 16: DeNarius McGhee passed for 313 yards and three TDs to lift the Bobcats (5-2, 3-0) over the Wildcats (1-7, 0-4) in Ogden, Utah.

McGhee opened the scoring with a 35-yard strike to Jon Ellis and added another 35-yard score, this time to Brian Flotkoetter, to give Montana State a 19-10 halftime lead.

Northern Arizona 39, Idaho State 30: Zach Bauman found his extra gear in the second half, leading the Lumberjacks (5-2, 3-1) to a victory over the Bengals (3-4, 1-3) in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Bauman, who finished with a career-best 266 rushing yards on 28 carries, carried five times on a six-play, 85-yard scoring drive in the third quarter to give the Lumberjacks their first lead, 19-14.

Sacramento State 31, North Dakota 7: Garrett Safron passed for 202 yards and a TD and rushed for two more scores as the Hornets (4-4, 3-1) pounded North Dakota (2-5, 1-3) in Grand Forks, N.D.

UC Davis 34, Northern Colorado 18: Randy Wright’s four TD passes staked the Aggies (3-5, 3-1) to a 31-0 lead en route to a win over the Bears (1-7, 0-4) in Greeley, Colo.
