In brief: Four teachers win credit union grants

SPOKANE COUNTY/NORTH IDAHO – Spokane Teachers Credit Union has awarded four teachers $500 classroom grants.

The teachers were selected by random drawing and the funds can be used on anything the teacher believes will enhance their students’ classroom experience.

The winners were: Randy Degenhart who teaches first and second grades at Liberty Elementary School in Spangle; Shawnna Breach, special education and response to intervention at Lakeland Junior High in Rathdrum; Katie Barone, kindergarten at Salnave Elementary School in Cheney; and Phil Plesek, science and biomed at Central Valley High School.

PetSmart on Division has adoption center

NORTH Spokane – Spokane Humane Society has opened a pet adoption center at PetSmart, 9950 N. Division St.

The cat and dog everyday adoption center will house 38 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

Furniture association donates to youth golf

SPOKANE – The First Tee of the Inland Northwest, a youth program that provides personal development and leadership skills using golf as a platform, has received a $3,000 donation from the Inland Empire Furniture Dealers Association.

The association has raised $9,000 for First Tee over the past three years – enough money to support First Tee programs at five elementaries and pay the range fees of 780 youth.

Thin Air radio hosts Halloween event

DOWTOWN – KYRS Thin Air Community Radio is hosting a Halloween fundraiser Friday at North Bowl, 125 W. Sinto Ave.
