Lakeland boys in semifinals


Lakeland was the lone North Idaho boys soccer team to survive the first round of the state soccer playoffs on Thursday with a 3-1 win over Century in the 4A tournament at Caldwell.

Fernando Pimentel scored twice for Lakeland, which plays Jerome today in the semifinals.

Idaho 5A: Lake City lost 7-1 to Boise in Meridian. Vincent Cavalin scored and Tanner Horton had 10 saves for the T-Wolves. … Post Falls fell 1-0 to Timberline despite Noah Gondo’s five saves.

Idaho 3A: Caleb Blackmore made eight saves for Bonners Ferry, which fell to Sugar-Salem 1-0 at Caldwell.

Girls soccer

Idaho 5A: Lake City fell to Boise 3-1 in the first round of the state tournament at Meridian. Tiegan Horton had seven saves for the T-Wolves with Maddi Ward scoring the lone LC goal. … Erica Simpson and Sadie Schmeling scored for Post Falls in a 7-2 loss to Rocky Mountain in Meridian.

Idaho 4A: Kaylee and Nan Kiebert, Sierra Scott and Paige Crane scored, and Emma Weme earned three assists, as Sandpoint advanced to the semis with a 4-0 win over Blackfoot at Caldwell. Makayla Sunquist posted the shutout for the Bulldogs, who play Middleton in the semifinals.

Idaho 3A: Badgers keeper Sarah Beck turned away 20 shots on goal, but Bonners Ferry fell to Marsh Valley 1-0 on McKenzie Gunter’s goal at Caldwell. … Filer defeated Coeur d’Alene Charter 2-1. Abby Bartlett scored and Jackie Jensen had 12 saves for the Panthers.

GNL: East Valley staged a second-half rally to defeat Deer Park 3-1 in a Great Northern League regular-season finale. Ashtin Martinson put DP ahead early, and that lead held up until the 55th minute when Michaela Sund scored. Alex Rankin scored at 65:00 with Skylar Bastin adding insurance. EV (10-2) finished in second, a point behind West Valley. … At Cheney, the Blackhawks (4-8) edged Pullman 2-1. Abby Hammermeister scored the go-ahead goal for the Blackhawks in the 56th minute. Jasmine McCauley also scored for Cheney. Diana DeWald scored for Pullman (6-6).


Idaho 5A Region I: Host Coeur d’Alene eliminated Post Falls 25-11, 25-16, 25-16. Megan Ramseyer had 11 assists and 10 kills, six digs and three aces for the Vikings. CdA will play at Lake City on Saturday in a winner-to-state, loser-out game. LC was swept 25-22, 25-14, 25-21 by Lewiston in the regional championship match.
